The holidays serve as the opportune time to host all of your friends and family for your next dinner or cocktail party. Unfortunately for most of you out there, you may be a little rusty on your entertaining skills or perhaps throwing a party simply is not second nature to you. That’s why we’ve compiled a few tips that will leave all of your guests speechless and begging you to have them over for more.

Determine Space. First off you must consider how large the space is that you plan on entertaining your guests. Once you’ve done this you can gauge how many people to invite. Keep in mind that you don’t want your guests to feel overcrowded and unable move around. Also, take into consideration what kind of party you are throwing. A dinner party? You’ll need a place for all to sit. A cocktail party? You now have extra room for a few more guests. Just be mindful of everyone’s space and comfort, it will make it a much more enjoyable experience for all.

Plentiful Food and Drinks. You can assume that if people are coming over for a dinner or cocktail party they are going to want to eat and drink. You don’t have to stock a full bar and offer a 5-course meal, but you should expect that each guest of yours will have a few glasses of wine and would enjoy some hors d’oeuvres with dinner. If it’s in your budget, consider hiring a catering staff or bartender to keep your guests replenished at all times. After all, you want to make sure that everyone walks out the front door satisfied at the end of the night!

Decorations are Details. Important details at that. Now don’t go out and spend all your savings on new china, but take what you have and make sure it works. Get everything together and make sure that certain pieces accent others to make it all visually appealing. In addition to this, you should always try to offer linens as opposed to paper napkins. Not that we have anything against them, they just make everything look proper. The final decoration you need to get is the centerpiece. For the centerpiece you can do any number of things; flowers, fruits, a candle arrangement, etc. Decorations will give your party a certain feel which we can assure everyone will notice.

Lighten it Up. Candle light is the best way to illuminate your party. It will give it a warm, cozy feel and make everyone look better. Yes that is correct, for whatever reason, candlelight is appealing to the human eye. With this being said, do not leave candles all around the room that will obstruct your guests view of one another. This may just makes things awkward and hurts the entire atmosphere that you were trying to create in the first place.

The Party is Yours. Quite possibly the most important aspect of any party you are hosting is to give it your own feel. As long as you are comfortable with the food, drinks, entertainment, decorations, seating and of course guests, you should be able to throw one amazing holiday get together.
