With an abundance of rich volcanic soil, lots of rain and sunshine and average year-round temperatures between 75 and 85 degrees, it’s no mystery why Hawaii is home to some of the best and largest fruit farms in the world. On Maui, fruit stands are practically a dime a dozen, but our pick undoubtedly goes to Hana’s ONO Organic Farms, a 50-acre certified organic farm located on the slopes of Haleakala Volcano.
ONO Farms History
Meaning “delicious” in Hawaiian, ONO Farms has been a long-time Maui staple for over 35 years. In fact, this family owned and operated organic farm is now in its fourth generation. The Boerners have been growing and eating organic for more than 60 years, and happily remind us that “the key to our wealth is our health.”
Charles “Chuck” Boerner has been farming at ONO since he was a kid, and with the knowledge that comes along with decades of experience in true organic farming, is now a featured speaker and expert consultant for local and international farmers around the world.
Fruit & Product Offerings
With a huge variety of colorful exotic fruits, all grown and handpicked by the family, including durian, strawberry papaya, soursop, eggfruit, jackfruit, rambutan, gourmet guava, Cuban red banana, kumquat and chocolate sapote, just to name a few, ONO also grows and sells cacao (chocolate) and Arabica estate coffee, in addition to jams, jellies, fruit butter, marmalade, and Simply Divine Spices.
If you’re looking for a place to expand your fruit knowledge, this is it!

While on Maui, make sure to stop by the ONO Farms Fruit Stand, open daily from 10am to 6pm, located directly past the gas station in Hana on the right hand side. Ask for recommendations about what types of fruit to try, and definitely get at least one thing you’ve never had before!
