Please join us in welcoming Chef Bella Toland to the Travaasa ohana! We’re excited to have her take the helm in The Preserve Kitchen + Bar, and even more excited to taste the creations inspired by her world travels, heritage, and love for all things Hawaii.

To help you get to know our new executive chef a little better, she’s shared a few of her favorite things.


Getting to know Chef Bella Toland

Favorite local Hana ingredient: Lilikoi. I love the tanginess of the fruit and I love to infuse the versatility of the flavor into different dishes, or just eat it on its own.

Favorite traditional Hawaiian dish to eat: Beef Lau Lau. The best one I’ve had was in Hana, two years ago made by a local friend with his own beef!

Favorite dish or item to indulge in: Cheese. I’m OBSESSED. The more pungent smell the better (the French in me wins!).

Favorite item to always have in your kitchen: Butter. Everything is better with butter.

Favorite place to spend your free time: The ocean. I grew up a scuba and free diver.

Favorite place you’ve traveled to taste the local cuisine: I grew up mostly in the Philippines and every year my husband and I go back, we choose a different island and learn its different take on Filipino food.

I was also recently in Nepal where my husband and I trekked to Everest base camp and Kalapatthar. The strong cultural influence has motivated us to make a trip back to India in the near future.

Favorite Travaasa experience: The spa is amazing, I love the cold plunge.
