One of the most memorable parts about a visit to Travaasa Hana, Maui is watching our band of horses roam along the Ocean Bungalows. At first glance, watching them wander in the field is something resembling a portrait, but even more special is taking a serene horseback ride along the coastline in the afternoon.

Occasionally, our horses make their way beyond the fence line at sunrise, but rarely do they miss an afternoon graze as the waves crash along the cliffs. They’ve also been known to ham it up a bit for Instagram so don’t forget to bring your camera.

Adding to our band of horses this spring are two steeds – Kaili & Kaomi, raised by a local brother from nearby Kipahulu. While they may be new to Travaasa, they have already begun to welcome guests with their warm Hana hospitality.

If you ever get the chance to participate in our Coastal Horseback Ride, you’ll appreciate just how mellow the crew is as they wind you down the coast, almost on autopilot, you somehow feel equal parts exhilaration and relaxation.
