Yoga is the physical, mental and spiritual practice that aims to attain a state of permanent peace and dates back to ancient India with various traditions found in Buddhism and Hinduism as well. Recently, the practice of yoga has taken root as a fantastic outlet for maintaining health and balancing overall wellness.
September is the official National Yoga Month (a national observance designated by the Department of Health & Human Services) designed to educate about the health benefits of yoga and to inspire a healthy lifestyle. In celebration of National Yoga Month (and every month), Travaasa offers a variety of yoga experiences to fit all experience- levels. From guided meditation to uncovering your chakras, there is a yoga class for you. Here are just a few of the mind-body yoga experiences offered this month:
Celebrate Beginning Yoga: One of the most important factors in maintaining a healthy body is a flexible spine, therefore, in this class we bring intention to healing the spine. We practice a combination of back bends, forward bends, twists, and postures which elongate the spine in order to strengthen and bring flexibility to the spine.
Neck and Shoulder Yoga Therapy: Use Yoga asanas to uncover your neck and shoulders imbalances and repattern your posture. Become more aware of your bandas to create support for your spine, shoulder, neck and head as you open and strengthen your heart and throat chakras.
Gentle Yoga Unveiled: The Wisdom of the Body: Great introductory class to yoga. We will focus on yoking our mind and body in order to learn the wisdom of the body. using breath and a brief meditation. Much of the class will be on the mat with a few gentle balancing poses.
Yoga Mudras—Honoring the Essentials: Uncover and honor what is essential through the practice of mudras (hand yoga) and conscious breathing. Learn yoga mudras, each distinctly related to the systems of organs and emotions within the body-mind called chakras. Calm and focus the mind, cleanse and nourish the organs, rekindle and channel elemental energies. Through the practice of mudras, awaken your essence and navigate life circumstances with grace, courage and joy.
Uncover Chakra Centered Yoga: Uncover awareness of the energetic centers of your body, the Chakras. You will weave yantras (sacred symbols), breathing exercises, postures and guided imagery to create a direct experience of these centers that energize the body. The completion of this journey will include deep relaxation that focuses on the integration and sharing of the experience, while holding a space to connect with your peers in silence.
Kapuna Yoga: Kupuna Yoga emphasizes safe, anatomical alignment and postural sequencing that addresses individual concerns. Instruction encourages gentle, organic exploration of postures, and the use of breath and descriptive metaphor as navigational tools for transformation and healing. Movement sequences will include the use of yoga props, i.e. blocks, belts, and blankets for the support and comfort of the individual.
